Any Good WordPress Podcasts?

Over the last week or so, since buying my new iPod Nano, I’ve been resubscribing to all my old favorite podcasts … for research of course 🙂

But I’ve been severely disappointed in the underwhelming number of WordPress podcasts … that is … podcasts that discuss WordPress topics, WordPress themes, etc.

Yes, I have subscribed to the Official WordPress podcast … that’s a given (is it actually “official”?).  But, with all due respect, it’s not very entertaining … unless of course Lorelle is on 🙂

I did a search in iTunes for WordPress and it returned quite a few results, but other than the official podcast, none have been updated in a VERY long time.

Could it be that there’s a market for an entertaining WordPress podcast?

    Hi, Nathan – I know the subject matter isn’t WordPress, but I’m using your template now and it suits our content great. And if you’re into acoustic music, who knows – you might want to subscribe anyway!

    Ouch!

    I’d be curious to know what we’d need to do differently in order to have you find us entertaining.

    And no, there is no “official” podcast, but I can tell you that most members of Automattic follow The WordPress Podcast.

    Haha, no offense intended at all. I am a loyal WP Podcast listner and always will be. But the podcast is more informational rather than fun. Not that that’s a bad thing … it’s just that I really enjoy podcasts that have some personality. You guys should definitely let your hair down and have some fun, like you did when Lorelle was on the podcast. Lots of laughing 🙂

    Again, no offense was intended. I absolutely love the show. You guys are true WordPress heavyweights!

    I agree there seems to be a shortage of WP related podcasts out there. I’ve been a long-time listener of the official WP podcast, and I think it’s really informative but every so often I do a search on iTunes just to see if anything new is out. Can’t believe there aren’t twice as many as there are.

    I found one podcast about how to install WordPress, but I think it died quickly. There was also one hosted by a teenage boy on TalkShoe that seemed interesting, but I think it also died off. Matt Mullenweg told me about a new one coming out when we were in San Francisco for WordCamp, but he didn’t know any specifics and never got back to me with a URL. I also search for WordPress podcasts periodically, but frequently all I find have “Just another WordPress blog” and have nothing else to do with the software.

    I agree that there’s room for more than one. There always is, whether you’re talking about WordPress or politics or sports… whatever. But, as I’m learning, starting a podcast and keeping one going are two different things.

    I was actually planning on trying to cut the time of the show down to 30 minutes, but it sounds to me like you want to hear us cut up more.

    Right you are! Keeping up with a podcast is a beast, I’m sure! And a well produced, regularly updated podcast is freaking awesome! I love that you guys have been persistent at it!

    I really don’t think time is a factor with podcasts. In all honesty, it really has a lot to do with content. I don’t necessarily want to see you guys cut up more. Interesting guests would be fantastic! A little controversy and opinion (loved the comment recently about making a plugin to tell diggers to go f**k themselves).

    Anyway, I’m sure you guys have a bunch of cool things up your sleeve. Can’t wait to see!

    I agree Nathan, it’s all in the content. Charles – you and Aaron are doing a great job at providing that. I look forward to every show. My podcast subscriptions are set to auto-update each week, and I’m always disappointed when there isn’t a new show for WP. 😉 It’s one of my favorite casts.

    Well, Nathan and Charity, you’re in luck. I can’t talk about it just yet, but let’s just say that I’ll be spending more time at home in the future and consequently more frequent episodes, more promotion, more content.

    I’m also considering making it a live, call-in show as well. Your thoughts?

    I think it’s worth trying. I have no idea what your circulation is, but I bet you’d have a lot of interest there. I listen to Sarah and No Name on San Fran’s Alice 97.3 every morning, and they have live call-ins – it’s great entertainment! 🙂

    I realize your focus is providing info not entertainment, but call-ins could add so much in terms of community feedback, opinion, ideas, events, etc. It could be really cool!

    OK, now you’ve got me excited! A live call in show (I assume it would be skype call ins) would be awesome!
